White Gold for Mr Moydens Handmade Cheese part 1

Alarm clock 4am, time to get ready for a day working along side master cheese maker Martin Moyden. at Lockley Villa Farm nr market Drayton. First stop meeting at the Creamery at 05.20 am, beautiful morning little sun and a few clouds, once Ali and I got there, Martin drove up with his pick-up and a massive trailer with 2 x1000 ltr empty tanks on board, we were going to follow him to Mike the dairy farmer and his herd of 90 beauties. After our introduction and wellies on our feet it was milking time, Mike had fresh milk from last nights milking stored in a tank, ready to take with us too, but Martin wanted also 1000 ltr fresh milk. Not so sure whether you al know how it works, but imagine a open barn with a pit in the middle, with 10 feed wells the each side, parallel with the pit, standing inside the pit, there are numerous gadgets with sucking apparatus with 4 suckers which can swing either side of the pit, Cows are patiently waiting for their turn to a treat and getting milked. Standing in the pit with Mike Martin and Ali surrounded with up to 20 cows. Interesting...cleaning teats first then on with the milk suckers and let it roll. each cow produces about 10ltr  twice a day, amazing machines on four legs. So one after the other Ali and I got in the swing of things. Once done we went with Mike to the fields to sewere the cows were happely grazing, to be milked again at 6pm. We got all the milk we need, said our good-byes and set of back to the Creamery.
